Children and PreschoolQuality of instruction, the irreplaceable warmth of Christian love, and the growth of young minds in the love of God as well as self esteem mark all of the contacts of the people of Emmanuel with children. An extensive and varied program designed to meet the needs of children born into an increasingly complex world greets the child and offers a small world of wonder and opportunity. Included in the children's program are a fully-graded Sunday School, a full slate of missions organizations, choirs for children of all ages, and the Emmanuel Baptist Day School. For children birth through five, Extended Training Care provides appropriate care and Bible teaching for preschoolers during Sunday morning worship. Sunday School is the key program of education. Its function is to provide Bible study opportunities for Christian learning and growth in ways appropriate to the age and abilities of the child.
CollegeStudents are invited to join us at 5:00 pm on Wednesdays in the Fellowship Hall for a free supper. LSU-A and LC students have membership to use the Activities Building (gym, racquetball, game room, Jivin' Jack's Coffee shop, etc.) Present your student ID for admission. Call 442-1302 for info. There is no cost of admission for most events. Please feel free to bring a friend. There will be security at all events. If you have any questions, please contact the church office at 442-7773.
Community InvolvementPeople caring about people is the backbone of ministry. Every member of Emmanuel is a minister and gifted to serve. Volunteers serve on local committees and agencies in Alexandria and Pineville. Coordination with social agencies such as Shepherd Ministries, Inc., and ministries such as Habitat for Humanity, as well as with other churches expands our horizons of involvement. Some members participate in short term missions trips.
Deacon Ministry TeamsMISSION STATEMENT "TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK" (From the title of a book by John Maxwell, who also said, "Its not how heavy the load, its how you carry it") The act of selecting, ordaining, and installing deacons is not intended to create a group of people within the congregation who are more important than the others. Rather, it is the creation of a core of servant-leaders who have the responsibility of promoting the use of spiritual gifts among all of our faith community. An effective way to do this is through the creation of ministry teams. Because we believe that all Christians are called to be ministers, we encourage each ministry team to recruit members from the general congregation. Believing that the vitality of our community of faith can be strengthened through ministry teams, the Deacons of Emmanuel Baptist Church are committed to providing leadership to at least four ministry teams.*
These teams will not replace any ministry activities now being conduced by various organizations and individuals in our church. Rather, they are intended to supplement and complement them. We are in greater danger of having too little ministry, not too much. Each ministry team is encouraged to recruit other members from within the congregation. Deacon Family Ministry The Deacon Family is an important core ministry of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Now, instead of every deacon ministering to families, only those deacons who choose to do so will be part of this team. Instead of every family in the church having a family deacon, families must chose to be part of this ministry. By having about ten families per deacon, the quality of ministry will improve. Hospital Visitation Ministry Team This ministry team will provide on-going spiritual and emotional support for individual church members and families who have experienced illness and/or hospitalization. The work of this ministry team involves visiting the sick, prayer support, and other tangible acts of compassion. Providing transportation, as needed, to hospitals, health providers, etc. also may be part of the work of this team. Discipleship/New Members Team Only in community can genuine discipleship be carried out. As deacons on the Discipleship/New Member team, we can support our membership and help strengthen each individual's own insight, faith, servant-hood, love, and compassion within the Emmanuel community and outward to the world. Some of the activities directed by this team would include:
An important function of this committee will be to help our new members become integrated into our church family. Tool Box Ministry Team The purpose of this team is to provide basic carpentry, mechanical, or general handyman services to our homebound, senior members, those who live along, and members who cannot afford a professional, or who feel uncomfortable with strangers in their home. In some instances, a team member may serve as a liaison between a professional, or just be present at the time the work is being done. Activities MinistryScottie Brooks coordinates our activities ministry which provides recreational opportunities for outreach, enhanced fellowship, and development of the total person. Emmanuel is one of the few churches in the community which makes its Family Life Center building available to non-church groups at a reasonable rate. Activities offered in the Family Life Center include basketball, skating, racquetball, volleyball, ping pong, pool, and more. The FLC also offers four bowling lanes and a coffee shop which can be used for an additional fee. These secure facilities are used for private occasions such as birthday parties, lock-ins, associational meetings, community activities, and much more. We are committed to the development of a total recreational ministry. The schedule for the Family Life Center varies during the year, so call 442-1302 for information.
Missions and MinistryThe needs of the world are great. The greatest need of persons is to accept the love of God through His son Jesus Christ. People of Emmanuel are involved in meeting the needs in our local community and the world. We support mission work in multiple ways. An active Woman's Missionary Union offers missions studies for girls and women of all ages. Royal Ambassadors provides mission study for boys from 1st grade through 6th grade. Our youth participate in a coed missions program. Special mission speakers and presentations give the whole congregation insight into mission work throughout the world. A person can choose to support missions financially either through the Cooperative Program of the SBC or the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Both programs support missionaries around the world.
Senior AdultsEmmanuel has been blessed with persons who have served for many years. Many older persons within the congregation who are still active as volunteers. We seek to provide quality programs for every age. Senior adults are no exception. Senior adult activities are scheduled to have a variety of programs. Fellowships, monthly luncheons, book reviews, trips, and other special events encourage a fun and meaningful time. The Heritage Club meets monthly for a meal and program geared to the interests and needs of the senior adult. The luncheon and program meet from September to May at no cost for participants. Homebound adults are important to the Emmanuel family. A team of volunteers visit the homes each month for a time of sharing and dialogue. Sunday School literature and devotional material are delivered. Twice a year special gift baskets are taken to the Homebound members. Our deacons make two other trips during the year to the homes or nursing homes to provide the Lords Supper.
Youth MinistryThe youth program at Emmanuel is for the spiritual and social development of our teenagers. We attempt to accomplish this through ongoing programs, special trips and events, and creative outlets like drama and music. Our philosophy is to assume brilliance. In doing so, we challenge our teens to a stronger relationship with God based on discipline and study. We broaden their worlds by encouraging them to see outside themselves through missions involvement. Our goal is to provide them with the tools they need to be innovative church leaders both today and in the future. Medical Release Form: All students and guests are required to have a notarized medical release form in order to participate on church retreats, trips, events, etc... Please feel free to print one from this site, fill it out, have it notarized, and return it to the church office.
