"Deacons: Our Servant Leaders"

Fri, 02/10/2012 - 1:49pm

Compassion and action began in the heart of God. The
scriptures are filled with acts of service to persons in need.
Last Sunday, we installed ten deacons to our Deacon Council. This group of 30 men and women are servant models for our congregation and
community. They will continue to shape how we understand and practice the extended hands of Christ to people.
The leadership elected by the deacons include Mickey White as the new chair. Tom Robinson is vice-chairperson and Daphne Robinson is secretary for the Council.
   There are five Deacon
Ministry teams which will expand our ministry throughout the congregation. If you need assistance in any of these areas or would like to volunteer to work alongside a deacon team, let the leaders know.
The Tool Box Ministry provides basic home repairs for church members. If you have a project, let these deacons know so they can coordinate with you and your schedule.
Our Hospital Visitation group offers spiritual and emotional support for church members and their families dealing with illness and/or hospitalization.  Members of the team will visit at least once a week.
We continue to have new members join our fellowship. The New Member Assimilation team contacts new members and seeks to make a meaningful transition into the life of
Emmanuel. Creative ideas are being developed to extend our hospitality to those who have come our way.
    A Prospective Member
Outreach team of deacons will help with follow up on guests who visit on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening.
The deacons will also provide a welcoming presence for all who come our way.
   To strengthen our
Homebound Ministry, deacons will work with the director to minister directly with our  homebound members. Whether sharing the Lord’s Supper or making a personal visit, the deacons will be the presence of Christ and Emmanuel to each person.
Pray for our deacons. Inform them if you have a need.       Volunteer to serve with them.
Emmanuel, modeling after the pattern of Jesus Christ.
